Directions for use

Preparing the timber, then applying

Before you brush

WAIT New hardwood — wait first New hardwood needs 4–6 weeks of weathering to open the grain before oiling.
CLEAN Clean, dry, no grey The surface must be clean, dry and free of greyed fibres. An older deck needs Grey Deck Cleaner first.
TEST Test the tone Pigment reads differently on different species. Try an offcut or a hidden board before doing the lot.

Applying the finish

COAT One coat, worked in Brush or lambswool applicator, along the grain, keeping a wet edge so the colour stays even.
WIPE Wipe the excess As with Aussie Clear, oil still sitting on the surface after 2 hours should be wiped off — a pigmented excess dries as a patchy film.
DRY Touch-dry in 8–12 hours Allow 24 hours before heavy foot traffic.

A colour that can't peel

Why it works

Most dark "decking stains" are films — and a film eventually cracks and peels. Walnut Timber Finish is the Aussie Clear oil carrying high-density, UV-stable pigment into the wood fibres, so the colour lives in the timber, not on it.

Non-film-forming

The oil migrates into the fibres. There is no film on the surface, so there is nothing to crack, peel or flake.

Deep UV shielding

A dense, UV-stable pigment holds the walnut tone against Australian sun for longer than a lightly pigmented clear.

One tone across mixed timber

Because the pigment is strong, blond Blackbutt, dark Merbau, pine and cedar all land on the same walnut brown.

Common questions

Is it the same oil as Aussie Clear?

Yes — it is part of the Aussie Clear family. The oil and the way it penetrates are the same; the difference is a dense walnut-brown pigment instead of a transparent one.

Will it peel like a decking stain?

No. It is a penetrating oil, not a film. The colour is carried into the fibres, so there is no surface layer to crack or peel.

Can I use it on pine or cedar?

Yes. It suits softwoods as well as blond and dark hardwoods, and takes them all to the same walnut tone.

How do I recoat it?

Wash the surface and apply a single top-up coat. No heavy sanding or stripping is needed.
